Truck drivers not only haul large loads across the country or even across the continent, they also have a great deal of responsibility.
The big trucks are a lot more unwieldy than normal cars, and accidents with trucks often have serious consequences. Therefore, only those who have the appropriate driver's license are allowed behind the wheel of a truck.

Until 1999 it was class 2, since the reorganization of the driving license classes the truck driving license is called class C. However, the legislature differentiates between different C licenses:
Class C1 includes medium-duty trucks with a gross vehicle weight of more than 3.5 tons, but less than 7.5 tons. Trailers may be towed in this class, but only if they are not heavier than 750 kilograms.

If you want more weight on the hook of the truck, class C1E is required. Here, too, the towing vehicle must not exceed the 7.5 t limit and the total weight of the truck and trailer must not exceed 12 t. If the towing vehicle weighs more than 7.5 tonnes, there is no way around Class C for heavy trucks.

Class C1 is then logically included. Even with the C-note, the maximum weight of the trailer is limited to 750 kilograms. Only with the CE driver's license can you move up to the premier class and then you can also drive the very large trucks and articulated vehicles.

Anyone who wants to drive a truck needs one thing above all else: a car driver's license. Class B is a prerequisite for the C1 or C license. If you want to acquire the C1E permit for trailers over 750 kilograms, you must also take the C1 certificate beforehand (or at least at the same time).

Similarly, the CE license can only be tackled by those who already have the C driver's license in their pocket. For that you usually have to be at least 21 years old. There are exceptions for trainees as professional drivers or a comparable profession. The C1 class, on the other hand, is open to everyone from the age of 18.
